Tony Freccero, 30
After starring for nationally ranked Cal State Hayward and a brief career with the Sydney Kings of the Australian National Basketball League, Freccero decided it was time to give back.
Coach Freccero is currently in his fourth year as an assistant coach for his alma-mater, the powerhouse Bishop O’Dowd Dragons of Oakland. Bishop O’Dowd has an unparalleled tradition of excellence, boasting the winningest coach in California Division l high school history, teams that are consistently ranked among the elite in the state, and an impressive list of college and pro players. Under Coach Freccero and the O'Dowd staff's instruction, the Dragons have compiled a 78-19 record, earned 3 league championships, 2 North Coast Sectional Championships, and a Northern California Championship.
Coach Freccero has been working basketball camps and clinics for almost a decade, improving and guiding countless players.
Coach Freccero is also an assistant for the nationally-recognized Oakland Slam N’Jam Soldiers AAU team. Along with Coach Lou Richie, the Soldiers have finish top 8 in the country two seasons in a row, further than any team from Northern California has ever gone.
Coach Freccero has also brought his talents and teachings abroad. He was invited to coach at the NBA’s 2004 “Basketball without Borders” camp in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a camp for the top 50 young male recruits from South America and the Caribbean. While in Brazil, Tony was able to take his experience and passion for the game to underprivileged children of Rio de Janeiro. He collaborated with Bolar Basketball School of Rio de Janeiro to run the first ever Triple Threat Academy camp outside of the United States. Children packed the gym each day for a chance to learn basketball and learn how they could apply the game lessons to their life.
Freccero again attended the 2005 NBA "Basketball Without Borders" camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina and has since partnered with and is Co-Director of Bolar Academy, Brazil.
